The photofilm "Kazakhs of the Karasuk steppes" was prepared by the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS, the Institute of Social and Political Studies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Municipal Institution "Karasuk museum of local history" of the Novosibirsk Region, and the Photoblog "MOTHERLAND ON THE MAP".
"Karasuk" in translation from Turkic means "deep water"
More than forty thousand people live in the Karasuk district of the Novosibirsk region bordering with Kazakhstan. From the past, lands were part of the Great Steppe, which for centuries was developed by nomads and farmers. Kazakhs from the 18th century inhabited the Karasuk land.
In the Novosibirsk region, they are the fifth most numerous people - about 12 thousand people.
