WORKSHOP “ANALYSIS OF PUBLIC ATTITUDES TOWARDS COVID-19 VACCINATIONS IN SELECTED CAREC COUNTRIES (GEORGIA, KAZAKHSTAN, KYRGYZSTAN, MONGOLIA, PAKISTAN, TAJIKISTAN, UZBEKISTAN)” 

On March 12, 2021, the CAREC Institute (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation), together with Public Opinion Research Institute (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan), with the support of the Asian Development Bank, held a joint online (ZOOM) / offline workshop Analysis of public attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination in selected CAREC countries: (Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan). On the workshop preliminary results of a population survey in relation to vaccination against COVID-19 were presented and discussed. The survey was conducted by the Institute in December 2020 - January 2021 in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, together with partners in the countries. 1000 respondents in each country were interviewed, 7000 respondents in total.

The workshop was attended by over 20 main participants and over 80 listeners online. Key speakers: Botagoz Rakisheva – Candidate of Sociological Sciences, Scientific Advisor and Project Director at Public Opinion Research Institute and Hans Holzhacker - Ph.D, Chief Economist at CAREC Institute. In the main session of the workshop, Botagoz Rakisheva presented the main comparative results of surveys of 7 CAREC countries in relation to the population towards vaccination against COVID-19. Hans Holzhacker presented the economic analysis of the survey results.

In addition, the reports of the speakers were presented in the second section, dedicated to highlighting the situation with the pandemic and vaccination of the population from COVID-19 in the 7 countries represented. The key speaker of the section - Alua Zholdybalina, Ph.D, Deputy Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - presented a report on the main trends in vaccination in the world and in Kazakhstan. Also, the representative of Kyrgyzstan Gulbara Ishenapysova, director of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, joined the second session with a report. Gulbara Ishenapisova shared information on the national preparation plan for the organization of the COVID-19 vaccine delivery and vaccination, as well as on the participation of Kyrgyzstan in the COVAX mechanism. Representative of Pakistan Irfan Shahzad Takalvi, founding president of the Eurasian Century Institute, spoke about the situation with the pandemic in Pakistan, and also shared his opinion on the attitude of the Pakistani population towards vaccination against COVID-19. Nurshai Azimbayeva, Head of the Directorate for Control of Vaccine-Resistant Infections of the Committee of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke in detail about the organization of vaccination against COVID-19 in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
